How to see new thread discoveries?
CrowdReply continuously scrapes Reddit directly to find new discussions matching your tracked keywords as they get posted.
Here's how to find and act on newly discovered threads.
How new thread discovery works
Unlike Ranked threads (which are found by scraping Google search results), New threads are discovered by scraping Reddit directly in real-time. When other Reddit users post a new discussion that matches one of your tracked keywords, CrowdReply picks it up and adds it to your Mentions feed.
This means you're seeing discussions as they happen not after they've already ranked on Google and accumulated hundreds of comments.
Where new threads appear
Go to Social Listening → Mentions and use the mention type toggle at the top to switch to New. This filters your feed to show only freshly discovered threads from Reddit.

Why new threads are valuable
First-mover advantage
On Reddit, early comments accumulate the most upvotes because they're seen first. A comment posted in the first few hours of a thread's life has a much better chance of becoming a top comment than one posted days later. Being first means your brand gets the prime position.
Lower moderation and filtering
New threads typically have much lower filtration and moderation activity from Reddit compared to established, high-visibility threads. This means your comments are more likely to stay live and visible.
AI models love fresh content
LLMs actively seek out and prioritize recent, well-engaged discussions. A new thread with strong early engagement is exactly the type of content AI models pick up and cite in their answers. By engaging on new threads, you're positioning your brand on the sources AI will cite next — not just the ones it's already citing.
Beat your competitors
Most brands only engage on established threads. By monitoring new discussions and engaging early, you get your brand mentioned before competitors even notice the thread exists.
Less competition for visibility
Established threads may have dozens or hundreds of comments. New threads have very few, so your contribution stands out and is far more likely to be read by both human visitors and AI crawlers.
Setting up a new thread workflow
Daily quick check (5 minutes):
- Open Mentions and switch to New
- Scan through the latest thread discoveries
- Star any that look promising (click the favorite star)
- Move on
Weekly engagement session (15–30 minutes):
- Open your Favorites
- Review the starred threads — have any gained traction since you found them?
- Engage on the most promising ones by clicking Engage and creating tasks
- Clear favorites that are no longer relevant
Real-time with email alerts:
- Enable email alerts on your most important tracked keywords (in Keyword Tracking)
- When you get an alert about a new matching discussion, check it immediately
- If it's a high-relevance thread, engage right away for maximum early impact
Combining New and Ranked
The best engagement strategy uses both discovery methods:
- Ranked threads (from Google scraping) — Proven, high-traffic discussions where you know the exact traffic volume and value. These are your reliable, consistent engagement targets.
- New threads (from Reddit scraping) — Fresh discussions where you can be first to engage, face less moderation, and create content that AI models will prioritize for being recent and actively engaged.
A balanced approach: 60% of engagement on Ranked (proven impact) and 40% on New (first-mover advantage + fresh AI citations).
Pro tip: Watch New threads become Ranked
- Find a promising New thread and engage early
- Star it as a favorite
- Check back in a week — has it started ranking on Google and gaining traffic?
- If yes, consider adding an upvote order to push your comment to the top of a now-high-traffic thread
This lets you get in early at low cost and then amplify your position once the thread proves itself.
